Questions?

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions...

1. What should I bring to the initial meeting?

Please bring any old estate planning documents you have such as Wills, Powers of Attorney and Trusts.  Also please bring a list of your assets and the addresses and phone numbers of people you might want to act in your plan.

2. How long will the initial meeting be?

Generally the initial meeting is about 90 minutes.  It may be longer if your situation is complex or if there are a lot of questions.

3. Is there a fee for the initial meeting?

Typically, no.  If there will be a fee, we will tell you that up front

4.  How long does it take to complete my estate plan?

Generally once we have all the information we need to draft your documents, we will schedule you to sign the documents in 1-2 weeks.

5. How long does it take to probate an estate?

It depends on a number of factors.  It can be anywhere from a few days to a few years.

6. Do you work on a flat fee or hourly basis?

Estate and special needs plans are generally done on a flat fee basis.  We will quote you a fee once we understand your goals and the plan we will be working with you to create.  Estate and trust administration work is done on an hourly basis.

7.  What is the minimum size estate I should have to do a plan?

Any size of estate you have worked hard to create should have the protections of a plan.  Whatever excuse you have now for not doing a plan will sound silly to those you leave behind. A minute of planning now can save your family hours of frustration later.

8.   I did a plan several years ago.  Does it need to be updated?

Probably. Plans should be reviewed every few years. Laws are constantly changing and so is your family situation. Ask us for a review of your plan to determine if changes are needed.  Often a review is done at no charge to you.

9.   What types of payment do you accept?

At this time we only accept cash or checks.  If you need to go on an interest-free payment plan, please let us know that before you sign your documents.

10.   I want to contest my family member's Will.  Can you help me?

No, we do not do probate litigation (will contests, etc.) or contested guardianships.  If you need these services, we are happy to refer you to a local attorney.
